Software > File Types only impacts what file types the Zune software is associated with. The Zune software will not play or sync Divx or Xvid video files. Perhaps your content is in that format?

Hey Jason, you could’ve told me about “software” -> “file types” :) i DIdnt get why my videos are not syncing until i changed that setting, but still they are not being added to my device!! help!

The way to get the best video quality is to rip DVDs that you own, so it’s only one conversion. I can’t give advice about working with content “acquired” from torrent sites.

A very thorough tutorial indeed. I just bought a Zune 120, so for me this was very helpful, although I had allready used a couple of hours to figure it out on my own. The thing is, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I have a lot of videos (torrents) and I have used some conversion freeware to convert some of them, but 1. It is poor quality, 2. It covers half the screen. Any advice on what to do to get best video output? Thanks

No, sadly the Zune team hasn’t added any AVI compatibility to the Zune software.

Does this work on the newest release of the Zune software?

Just rip your own DVDs – that’s the best source of content.

I’m not sure, it’s been years since I ran across MPEG content (other than MPEG2 off a DVD). I kind of doubt it…

The broke that with the 3.x update – the best you can do now is click in the artist list and start typing, it will work there. Or the search box. I miss that feature too…

One time I remember just typing letters and they came up in the main screen while highlighting the bands of the letter I typed. I cant remember how i did that. can you guys tell me how to do that again?

nvm thank you. it worked out of nowhere

  18. By ThoughtsMedia on Dec 16, 2009 | Reply

That should work, but since it’s not, it must be that whatever format the MPEG4 file is in isn’t Zune-compatible.

ok so i downloaded a movie off of google videos. I clicked on “Download video – iPod/PSP” and it gave me an mp4 file of it. i put it in “phillip/document/videos” but the zune doesnt read it. what should i do?

I can’t explain why it won’t delete music – unless that music is in a strange folder/place where the software can’t access? There are too many variables to say for sure. If your music is in a strange format, you’ll get that error, though I’ve never seen it myself.

No, that’s not true. You need Windows XP or Windows Vista to run the software. Go to the Zune web site and download the 3.1 software.

I would appreciate if you can help me with a small problem. I’ve tried deleting music from the software but nothing seems to happen. Another thing 4 you, when I try to add certain music, sometimes it says “Invalid Media Type”, why?

  23. By krymsom on Dec 16, 2009 | Reply

Is it true you need an ms media center 2005 or newer to get the software

  24. By ThoughtsMedia on Dec 16, 2009 | Reply

Yeah, I agree completely that it’s silly it just ignores the file types it can’t read – there’s no excuse for not showing the user an error message or at least a warning saying “Hey, I can’t import these files, sorry”. The software has room for improvement, that’s for sure.

    Thank you!
In these few seconds I found the answer to 4 hours of searching.
I could not see any of my videos in the folder I was pointing to because it won’t show any files it can’t play. This software is absolutely horrible! It should at least show the files and then show an error (file type not supported) if I try to load them onto the Zune.

Hmm…then I have no idea what the problem could be. Sorry. :-(
